What is Disaster Recovery in the Cloud?

Brought to you by Calitech™ Cloud Managed and Cloud Hosting Services

What happens when your nightmares come true at the worst possible time? Your business is growing, your lead generation program is delivering results, and your customers couldn’t be happier. And then, when you least expect it, something really bad happens. A fire. An earthquake. A hurricane. A break-in. Suddenly, your database is gone, your software is compromised, and your applications don’t work. Luckily, you have a disaster recovery plan in place, solidly grounded in the cloud.

Any cloud strategy needs a robust Disaster Recovery plan to support it. Disaster Recovery is the replication and hosting of physical or virtual servers to prevent failover in the event of a man-made or natural catastrophe. You may choose to keep your data on-premise, but have a failover site that is remote. That way, in the event of a total or near-total shutdown of your business, all your data can be safely recovered. Or you may already have your data hosted at a third-party server, but will require that your cloud supplier also provide a failover site.

Whichever solution you prefer, make sure that your Disaster Recovery solution offers you control and flexibility. The entire plan design and implementation should be tailored to your needs, and tested periodically to ensure that, if disaster strikes, recovery will not be far behind.
